Clifford M. Jones, Jr., founder and principal of Land Design Alternatives, has been a landscape architect for over 35 years. Although he was captivated by the emerging concepts of vest-pocket parks and planned urban developments when he was studying at the State University of New York College of Forestry at Syracuse University, practicality dictated that he begin his career working for a small residential firm in South Jersey. He soon found that he loved the challenge of designing spaces that people lived in every day.
At various times during his career, Cliff has worked in urban planning, commercial/industrial design, municipal design and demonstration garden design, but he always returned to residential landscape design as his preference and his passion.
Cliff has designed award-winning projects ranging from small gardens to multi-level, multi-use yards with pools, tennis courts, extensive hardscape and accessory buildings. His work has been published in various trade journals including Sunset Magazine and Ortho Books.
Cliff is a longtime member of the American Society of Landscape Architects, President of the Burlington County Natural Sciences Club, and was a founding member of the California Green Industry Council in the Bay Area. He has served as a judge for regional design and construction competitions, as Landscape Architect for the Town of Glassboro (New Jersey) Planning Board, and as a guest lecturer in irrigation design at the College of San Mateo in San Mateo, California. He holds licenses in New Jersey, California and Pennsylvania.
